Getting Started
Installation & First Launch
Download WavePhase, run it for the first time, and make sure audio and network output are ready to go.
System requirements
- OS: Windows 10/11, macOS (Intel + Apple Silicon), or Linux x86-64. A recent 64-bit machine is recommended.
- GPU: a GPU with modern graphics support (Vulkan, Metal, DirectX 12, or OpenGL ES) — the visual engine renders on the GPU.
- Audio: any input device (audio interface, loopback/virtual device, or built-in input) for live analysis.
- Network: a wired network is strongly recommended for DMX over Art-Net or sACN.
Download & install
- 1
Get the latest build
Grab the installer for your platform from your account dashboard or Get WavePhase Free.
- 2
Install and launch
On Windows run the installer; on macOS open the .dmg and drag the app across; on Linux extract the .tar.gz and run ./wavephase. On first launch it creates a new, empty project.

Choose your audio input
Open the audio settings and select the input device WavePhase should listen to. This drives all the analysis sources.
Routing audio in
WavePhase analyses whatever it hears on the selected input. There are two common ways to feed it:
- Live input — a microphone or a line/audio-interface input picking up the room or a feed from the mixer.
- Loopback / virtual device — route the audio your computer is playing (e.g. from a DJ app or DAW) into WavePhase using a virtual audio device.
Cleaner detection
A direct feed from your mixer or a loopback device gives much more reliable beat, key, and spectral analysis than a room mic.Network output
To control real fixtures, WavePhase sends DMX over the network. Make sure the machine running WavePhase is on the same network/subnet as your nodes or fixtures, then configure the protocol per output (see Patching):
- Art-Net — DMX over UDP on port
6454, the most common option. - sACN (E1.31) — DMX over ACN, unicast or multicast.
Firewall
If you see no DMX output, check that your OS firewall allows WavePhase to send UDP, and that your interface's IP is on the right subnet for your lighting network.
